Nuts!

We always thought it was strange that Will never liked peanut butter...

And then about a week ago, Will saw us eating a cookie containing PB and wanted a bite. We of course gave him a bite, thinking yum...cookie! He immediately spit the bite out and he starting getting rashy bumps next to his mouth. I called the doctor and after assuring the nurse he was still breathing okay, no wheezing or vomiting, etc., she advised to give Benadryl and bring him in the following day for allergy tests.

The blood test was excruciating for a parent to observe. When the lab tech asked if he was ready, Will's response was "No". He knew something that he wasn't going to like was coming his way. It took Mommy and a nurse to hold him down for the lab tech to draw his blood. It took a little maneuvering before the blood started to flow and all the while Will was sobbing and repeating "Done! Done!". (We both survived and Will ended up with TWO stickers.)

Our hope was, that Will just had sensitive skin and his eczema was flaring that day, but the doctor called with the results: PEANUT ALLERGY. On a scale from 0 to 6 he is a 3. We are now stocked with EpiPens and educated on how to use them. We see a pediatric allergist at the end of May and we are to keep him in a "peanut-free environment".

We are peanut-loving-parents, but we will gladly do whatever it takes to keep our little guy safe and healthy. We're looking forward to meeting with the allergist to see what kind of info he gives us and have started a list of questions.

We are so thankful that we caught this early and it was a fairly minor reaction!
